Galaxian Protectorate
The Galaxian Protectorate is a political and religious faction led by Nebuella, self-proclaimed god.
Founded by Nebuella herself, the Galaxian Protectorate serves to provide spiritual guidance, resources and defence to planets defecting from the Orion Corporation, in exchange for their service and loyalty to Nebuella as the reincarnated, second coming of Galaxy. Despite the reputation it has worked hard to foster, being seen as more benevolent than the ‘tyrannical’ Orion Corporation, the protectorate’s primary mission is simple: to rapidly spread Nebuella’s divine influence all across the Milky Way Galaxy.
The planets within the Galaxian Protectorate’s embrace are not treated as constituent nations of New Sovereign and Nebuella is not viewed as their empress. All are free to operate autonomously; the only condition is their acceptance of Nebuella as the reincarnation of Galaxy. Providing Nebuella and New Sovereign with tokens of their faith rewards them with her divine favour and miraculous aid. Her forces are mainly ceremonial but very large, providing relief across the galaxy whilst showcasing her military strength.
Most members of the Galaxian Protectorate play along, and enjoy the full benefit of Nebuella’s favour and benevolence – but every now and then, a member gets a little big for its boots and forgets its place. Insubordinate members are made examples of, branded threats to the protectorate and greater cosmic order, whilst unfaithful dissenters find themselves stripped of their resources and subjected to Nebuella’s wrath. In dishing out her divine judgement and sanctions, Nebuella reinforces fear and devotion within her protectorate.
The Galaxian Protectorate is headquartered on the planet New Sovereign. Its principal base of operations is the Star Citadel in the city of Eternastar. Its symbol is the talisman of Nebuella’s staff, known in antiquity as the Staff of Galaxy. Nebuella has chosen this eight-pointed star as a standard for her second coming, rather than the four-pointed version employed by the Order of the Galactic Halo, believing it to symbolise the next stage in her divine evolution.
Many of the protectorate’s officers are former members of the Order of the Galactic Halo, which was already decimated and divided into splinter factions even before Nebuella’s uprising. As a result of this, the Galaxian Protectorate is viewed as a threat by the remaining members of Galactic Halo who believe that Nebuella is a false god and a fraud. On the other hand, the protectorate has also drawn defectors from the Order of the Event Horizon who believe Nebuella’s claim legitimate.
