Brunsun
Brunsun is a planet in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Historically the home of the bargeists – a large species of sentient canid humanoids – Brunsun’s prime strategic location and plentiful natural resources made it an early target of the Orion Corporation. Alien settlers from across the empire quickly moved in and made Brunsun their home, beginning a process of rapid industralisation, centralised in Brunsun’s capital, Burner Town. There, as the city built up around them, the bargeists were forced aside to live in what is now known as the infamous Gutter District.
In particular, Brunsun offered something different to the big-idea industrialists who felt constrained by New Triton’s eco policies. Where New Triton was clean, glittering and green, Brunsun was dirty, smoky and brown, and it had no such policies. Whilst New Triton developed renewable energy sources and invested in green public transportation, Brunsun burned fossil fuels and its people zipped about in cars. To this day, Brunsun’s motor industry dominates its economy.
Today, Brunsun has the distinction of being one of the Orion Corporation’s 42 subdivisional capitals, and it’s the social, cultural and financial centre of its wider sector. However, Brunsun shares little in common with the glittering lights and space-age sheen of New Triton, the corporation’s true capital. As cosmopolitan as Brunsun has become, little has been done to help intergrate communities, nor to foster equality, and, as a result, the planet has become notably segregated. The richer, more prosperous cultures reside in the exclusive Sky and Space Districts, whilst the less privileged cultures live in the Gutter and Chimney Districts.
Whilst being nearly on par with New Triton for technological advancement, Brunsun suffers from a lack of investment and funding, and its dirty perception and unfortunate crime rate mean it suffers a more dour reputation than the capital.
Even when it was solely the home of the bargeists, Brunsun was always a world of near total darkness. Due to a combination of factors, such as the density of its atmosphere, Brunsun’s surface receives only fleeting daylight. Recent developments, such as centuries of unchecked pollution, have since exacerbated this problem tenfold, to the point that the Gutter and Chimney Districts no longer receive any daylight at all. As a result of this – combined with the social injustices that these districts face – crime in these areas is rife.
Brunsun’s climate and weather can be loosely described as miserable, with temperatures typically on the colder side. There’s certainly a lot for tourists to see and do on Brunsun, and despite its rather unsavoury reputation it remains a financial powerhouse. Its cultural influence on its sector, as well as on the Orion Corporation as a whole, is undisputable, and, however you look at it, Brunsun is still a remarkable place with a fascinating industrial legacy.
Brunsun has nine moons, including Arkwright, Brunel and Chongzhi. None are hospitable to carbon-based lifeforms.
