New Triton

New Triton is a planet in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Above all other planets, New Triton stands as the political, cultural, social, technological and financial centre not just of the Orion Corporation – of which it is capital – but the Milky Way Galaxy as a whole. It serves as the seat of Empress Cassiopeia and her government, and it’s by far both the galaxy’s richest and most populous planet. Most of its citizens live in the New Triton Megalopolis: a sprawling conurbation, comprised of tens of thousands of towns and cities which have fused together over the centuries.

There is a saying. It goes: ‘whosoever controls New Triton, controls the galaxy’. Much of the Milky Way Galaxy’s power is centred there, and thus it’s the ultimate prize for all who covet that power. Though it is now under the control of the Orion Corporation, it has changed hands frequently over the last several thousand years. Even within the Orion Corporation itself, there is a power struggle between the Order of the Galactic Halo and the Order of the Event Horizon – two ancient cults which both hungrily crave control of New Triton.

New Triton was founded by a consortium of species which included humans: refugees originally from the planet Earth, who had burned a trail of destruction through their native Sol system before eventually settling on the Neptunian moon Triton. With nowhere left to turn for resources and safe habitation, they were rescued from their peril by fellow aliens refugees in search of a new world to call home. Together, this group came to settle on the empty, but bountiful, world that is now New Triton.

As the cultural heart of the Orion Corporation and by extension the wider Milky Way Galaxy, the New Triton calendar has been widely-adopted throughout the galaxy. Thus, dates in most places within New Triton’s sphere of influence are recorded by their New Triton equivalent, with each year being comprised of 292 days of 30 hours, divided into 12 roughly equal months (with nine being 24 days, and three being 25 days). Though this calendar is widely-used, it is rejected on some planets such as Gunkmire, which use their own.

New Triton has just one moon, simply named: Conscience.
